About the race

This is the first race of the season and there would be lot of excitement that we can expect since there have been quite a few changes in the rules and regulations of the cars and the points methodology as well.

Just to give a quick preview about some of the crucial changes to the cars, the engine has will now be smaller ones with 1.6 litre V6 turbocharged powertrains being used this time instead of 2.4 litre V8 engines. This will lead to increase in the output of the engine though the same will be offset against the increase in weight of the cars by around 50 kg. Another major change is that now each driver will be able to use only one gearbox for at least 6 continuous races and failure to do so will attract penalty.

Talking about changes in designing of the car, the cars will come with smaller nose in the front with ground clearance of just 185 as compared to 550 mm allowed in 2012 and a width of 1800 mm compared to 1650 mm earlier. The car will also feature a narrower rear wing at the rear resulting in lower downforce by around 15 percent and resulting in higher fuel efficiency and aero dynamism of the car.

Sebastian Vettel from Red Bull would be looking to make the records straight by opening the account of the season with a win. He will start as the defending Drivers’ Champion (team being defending Constructors’ Champions) as he won the last season that was his fourth consecutive title and he would be looking forward to equal the record of all-time great Michael Schumacher who has won five titles in his career.

Ferrari could be one team that can give a tough fight as it has the best team of drivers in this season. The 2007 World Champion Kimi Räikkönen has returned to Ferrari, the team he raced for from 2007 to 2009 after being with Lotus till previous year. On the other hand is another world champion Fernando Alonso and the notable part of this partnership is that this would be the first time that Ferrari has contested a season with two World Drivers’ Champions in the team. Already having won the last season by Kim, it would give him some advantage and he should be able to capitalize on it.

Mercedes team is the favorite to win not only this race but also this season and Lewis Hamilton is expected to play a pivotal role in achieving that. They have been good also in some of the recent tests conducted as per new rules and so they will be looking forward to make a comeback this season.

Our predictions

Sebastian Vettel seems to be the favorite for this race as he has won the last few races of last season and there has been no challenge from other drivers. However Kimi Raikkonen won the race last year and so he will also look to repeat the feat and open the account for the team. Other drivers to look out for are Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton along with the changes in rules would surely make the race exciting this season and we can surely expect a surprise.

Overall we feel that the first race of the season is going to pretty exciting and interesting and there could be some records that could take place this season.
